Job Description:
Budget Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2)
Salary: $51,261 - $53,151
Binghamton University invites applications for the position of Coordinator, Multicultural Resource Center (MRC). As a unit within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the MRC is the largest office serving more than 90 culturally diverse student organizations. The MRC serves to advance the diversity mission by working closely with various offices and departments to provide quality programming and other resources that support the campus community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the MRC, the ideal candidate will join the MRC staff which also includes an Office Manager, and two Graduate Assistants.
This role requires attention to detail, proactive communication, and consistent follow-through on assigned responsibilities. The ability to operate within established structures and maintain alignment with leadership expectations is essential.
- Support and coordinate MRC initiatives, services, and daily operations by:
- managing semester and monthly programming calendars
- coordinating programs, marketing efforts, and the interfaith meditation and prayer room
- ensuring community events, dialogues, and collaborative initiatives are planned and executed in alignment with departmental priorities, timelines, and partnerships.
- Promote the MRC and raise awareness of the needs and concerns of underrepresented populations through presentations, initiatives, written materials, collaborative programming, and representation on campus-wide committees.
- Participate in hiring and training of student staff, with a focus on accountability and professionalism.
- Serve as a liaison to the cultural student organizations.
- Ensure all events are fully prepared and executed, including logistics such as space coordination, food planning, accessibility, on-site setup and marketing.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information across all platforms including social media.
- Support student staff involvement in programming, including providing direction, and ensuring engagement.
- Support and track assigned projects using established systems (e.g., Monday.com, shared calendars, tracking tools).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Competence in intercultural communication and demonstrated knowledge of cultural identities
- Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal and cultural needs of underrepresented students, faculty, and staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse and underrepresented communities
- Demonstrated experience coordinating events or programs with multiple stakeholders
- Available to work occasional evening and weekend hours
Preferred:
- Master's Degree
- Prior experience managing communications, marketing and social media
